Zakat Al-MAl
What is Zakat (Zakaat) and is it obligatory?
Zakaat is one of the five Pillars of Islam. It is an obligation on every Muslim who is able to donate Zakat to those in need. Allah (swt) says: “So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakāh and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.” (Quran 73:20)
Who is eligible to receive Zakat?
Zakat can be given to eight types of beneficiaries. Allah (SWT) says: “Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect (zakah) and for bringing hearts together (for Islam) and for freeing captives (or slaves) and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the (stranded) traveler – an obligation (imposed) by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.” (Quran 9:60)
