Palestine's dry, arid and parched environment provides the best naturally territory for olives trees. Some trees are dated over 3500 years and are amongst the oldest trees in the world. The olive trees represents the strength of the Palestinian people and is revered in the three main religions.

PLANTING PROCESS

The Olive Branch Australia has partnered with local and trusted nurseries in The West Bank and Gaza to plant olive shrubs across Palestine. It is a fact the current generation of Olive tree farmers in Palestine are benefitting from the trees planted by their grand parents. 

ECONOMIC BENEFITS

Olives are a main source of income for around 80,000 Palestinian families. It estimated that 57% of the cultivated land in Palestine is planted with olive trees. As such olive trees account for 70% of fruit production in Palestine and contribute around 14% to the Palestinian economy. About 65% of the population in Palestine works in the olive fields during the picking season.

BENEFITS TO FAMILIES

Approximately 100,000 Palestinian households depend entirely on olives as their primary income source. These households use 93% of the olive harvest for olive oil production while the rest is used for olive soap, table olives and pickles.
